Solidarity with the Standing Rock Water Protectors
The Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will be “closing the portion of the Corps-managed federal property north of the Cannonball River to all public use and access effective December 5, 2016,” This would lead to the destruction of the Standing Rock water protectors’ Oceti Sakowin Camp and mass arrests of our brothers and sisters there as early as Monday.
Already, law enforcement agencies have injured peaceful water protectors by firing water cannons in freezing temperatures and by assaulting protectors with concussion grenades, tear gas, and rubber bullets. Morton County Sheriff Department continues to violate the human rights of those who are standing together in opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline.
We must ensure that the human and treaty rights of all who stand against the pipeline are protected.
How can I actively support the Standing Rock Water Protectors?
The Dakota Access pipeline is funded directly by banks which you’ve probably heard of or do business with. Other banks support the Dakota Access pipeline indirectly by offering credit lines to its parent companies.
If you’re a customer at any of these…
… you can call their bank executives or close your accounts with them and make it clear to the bank manager why you are closing them.
Another way in which you can speak out is by calling the White House and the following agencies and demanding that law enforcement stop violating the human rights of water protectors immediately.

You can say, “I stand with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and all water protectors opposed to the Dakota Access Pipeline. There is no room in a democracy to prevent freedom of assembly or to use water cannons, tear gas, or rubber bullets against peaceful, unarmed water protectors.”
We have just weeks until the company overseeing the North Dakota Access Pipeline, Energy Transfer Partners, plans to defy federal orders and begin drilling under the river. The White House must order the Army Corps of Engineers to deny the easement and stop this destruction, and the presence of the water protectors is more important than ever.
It is a difficult time for all of us, but the power of the people, principled alliances, and prayer have brought us this far, and they can lead to protecting the river as we go into the next stages of threats to Mother Earth.
