Peacemaker Internships – Summer 2013!
Massachusetts Peace Action is seeking students, recent graduates, or young activists who can commit 12-15 hours per week in Summer 2013 (May to August), or 10 hours a week in Fall 2013 (September to December). The internship is unpaid but a $300 stipend is awarded on completion. Start and end dates are flexible but the student should be able to work at least 10 weeks. Our office is located near Harvard Square, Cambridge.
Massachusetts Peace Action is a statewide membership organization working to develop the sustained political power to foster a more just and peaceful U.S. foreign policy. Through grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, and community education, our priority issues for 2013 are: cut the military budget to fund jobs, the environment and human needs; prevent war with Iran and end the war in Afghanistan; and abolish nuclear weapons.
Choose from one of three specialities:
Communications
- Post regularly to Facebook and Twitter about Pecae Action’s projects, issues and ideas. Write e-alerts and reorganize web content. Photograph events and produce videos
- Write or edit news releases or articles about Peace Action projects
- Contact mainstream media outlets to cover events and/or run our articles and releases
Legislative
- Update the Legislative Scorecard to reflect current legislation, sponsorship and vote results
- Write updates for our supporters on the legislative agenda; post updates on social media
- Contact legislative offices to communicate our requests
- Contact Peace Action supporters who are constituents and ask them to contact legislative offices
Research
- Search public sources to find information on military-industrial contractors and installations
- Connect with peace campaigners and researchers to share information and plan campaigns
- Draft educational and promotional materials (e.g. fact sheets, reports)
All interns will:
- Meet in the office with staff and other interns
- Assist with outreach tabling, mailings, data entry, vigils and rallies, and general office tasks as needed
You must: Have demonstrated your understanding of the global and domestic effects of U.S. militarism and a commitment to grassroots organizing for progressive social change; have strong writing, analytical and interpersonal skills; be a self-starter and desire to work as part of a small team in a grassroots setting.
