Senator Kerry: Stand Up for Us!

Massachusetts needs jobs and real solutions, but as deficit cutting mania sweeps Washington, our political leaders are ignoring common-sense solutions.

Massachusetts Peace Action has launched a petition calling on Senator Kerry to support fair taxes for the wealthy, protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, end the wars and cut the base Pentagon budget.

Sign the Petition: Appeal to Senator Kerry!

Senator Kerry is a member of Congress’ “Super Committee”, which is tasked with proposing by November 23 how to cut the 10-year Federal deficit by $1.2 trillion. They should be creating jobs instead.

Wall Street wrecked the economy, but millionaires, billionaires, and financial speculators are not paying their fair share of taxes. Fair taxes on high incomes, capital gains, and financial transactions would make money available to create jobs, build infrastructure, and provide education and health.

Over $1 trillion has been spent on the futile wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the Pentagon’s budget has jumped 80% since 2001 — yet this misguided “security” spending has not made us safer. Ending the wars, bringing the troops home, and cutting the $545 billion a year base Pentagon budget 25%, would save far more than Sen. Kerry needs to meet the “Super Committee’s” target.

Talk to your neighbors about the “Super Committee”. Download the petition and print paper copies for face-to-face distribution. Tell Senator Kerry he must stand up for us by saying: Create jobs! Hands off Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid! Fair taxes! Bring the troops home! Cut the Pentagon!
