Massachusetts Peace Action calls for a vote of YES, YES, YES on the three ballot questions that will be decided on Election Day, November 6th.
Question 1. Safe Patient Limits- Vote YES!
The Patient Safety Act will dramatically improve patient safety in Massachusetts hospitals by setting a safe maximum limit on the number of patients assigned to a nurse at one time, while providing flexibility to hospitals to adjust nurses’ patient assignments based on specific patient needs.
The initiative is supported by a broad coalition from across Massachusetts, including registered nurses, patients and family members, health and safety organizations, community groups, unions and elected officials.
A YES VOTE would limit the number of patients that could be assigned to one registered nurse in hospitals and certain other health care facilities.

Question 2. Money and Politics-Vote YES!
The Ballot Initiative will create a Citizens Commission to investigate and report on the effects that Citizens United and similar court cases have had on our political discourse. The Initiative will also state firmly that it is the policy of Massachusetts to support a 28th Amendment to overturn Citizens United.
This question wants to reaffirm that corporations are not people!
A YES VOTE would create a citizens’ commission to advance an amendment to the United States Constitution to limit the influence of money in elections and establish that corporations do not have the same rights as human beings.

Question 3. Upholding Transgender Rights-Vote YES!
In 2016, Governor Charlie Baker signed a bill passed by the Massachusetts House and Senate that adds gender identity to the list of prohibited grounds for discrimination in places of public accommodation. Such grounds also include race, color, religious creed, national origin, sex, disability, and ancestry. Public accomodations are places that are open to and accept or solicit the patronage of the general public, such as hotels, stores, restaurants, theaters, sports facilities, and hospitals. This ballot question is seeking to repeal the addition of gender identity to this law.
A YES VOTE would keep in place the current law, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity in places of public accommodation.
