Born in Germany, the daughter of noted conductor Eugen Jochum, Veronica Jochum studied with Joseph Benvenuti, Edwin Fischer, and Rudolf Serkin, and has performed in more than 50 countries with many of the world’s permier orchestras, conductors, and musicians. In 1994 the German government awarded her the Cross of the Order of Merit for her embodiment of the highest traditions of German culture. She has trained generations of piano students at New England Conservatory.
The widow of architect and Harvard professor Willo von Moltke, Ms. Jochum is a sister-in-law of Freya von Moltke and the late Helmuth James von Moltke, two leading resistance fighers against the Nazis. Her recital for the Massachusetts Peace Action Education Fund is one of her many performances for causes promoting peace, reconciliation, and liberation from oppression.
“Mozart: A Journey,” first performed in 2006 in honor of the composer’s 250th birthday, surveys the music and letters Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart produced during his short life, with new translations of the letters by the German scholar Robert Spaethling. Ms. Jochum will perform music and read excerpts of letters in chronological order.
The performance will be followed by a reception with the artist. Tickets are $50 and benefit the Massachusetts Peace Action Education Fund’s statewide education and organizing work.
