No War with Iran! Write Congress TODAY to tell them to support a negotiated nuclear deal with Iran. Six Massachusetts Peace Action leaders visited 9 Congressional Offices in Washington D.C on June 23-24 to advocate for a nuclear deal with Iran and for there to be no U.S military action in Iraq. Delegations also visited Representative Clark’s and Representative Tierney’s district offices.
Gaza Crisis: We call for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza and for the US to withhold support for Israel’s extreme and disproportionate attacks which are taking a terrible toll on civilians in Gaza. We supported two rallies on Friday in Boston — please Contact Congress and stand by for more actions.
Lowell Folk Festival: We Need Volunteers on Saturday, July 26 when we will set up an outreach table in Lowell. We’ll be showing off our Nuclear Globe and ask people to sign our new petition, Funding for Education – or for Nuclear Weapons? Can you spend an hour or two between noon at 5pm? Mass. Peace Action is proudof our work with RaiseUp Massachusetts, which won a huge victory when Gov. Patrick signed into law an increase in the minimum wage to $11 an hour, highest in the nation. RaiseUp will go to the polls in November with its second campaign — to require Massachusetts full time jobs to provide employees a week of earned sick leave per year, which will help over 1 million Massachusetts workers. Rebecca Gordon will speak on her new book “Mainstreaming Torture” at Porter Square Books, Cambridge, on July 29 at 7pm. She is a professor of philosophy at the University of San Francisco and a member of the War Times collective. Nuclear Savage: Film Screening and Potluck: tells the story of the U.S. H-bomb tests in the Marshall Islands in the 1950s which devastated the islanders living there. This screening also welcomes the walkers participating in “Walking for Peace and Non-Violence” organized by New England Peace Pagoda. This gathering initiates a series of events in relation to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. Tuesday, August 5, 7 pm, First Church in Boston, 66 Marlborough St.
“Boston Remembers Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Moving from Violence to Unity”, will be a memorial procession through downtown Boston with music, dance, talks and action on Wednesday, August 6 from 3:00 -5:30pm. Gather at the First Church in Boston, 66 Marlborough St and walk to Boston City Hall Plaza. The ceremony will be held at Boston City Hall with talks by Tina Chery, president of the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute and elected officials. Please join us for this walk to remember!
Hot War: Climate Change, Conflict and Sustainability will feature Michael Klare, Five College professor of peace and world security studies. Klare will talk about how climate change will provoke world conflict, and why sustainability is the only sure road to peace. This event will be held Thursday, Sept 11 at 7pm in Boston or Cambridge, location TBA. In preparation for the People’s Climate March. Sponsored by United for Justice with Peace.
The People’s Climate March is scheduled for Sept. 21 in New York City. The oil monopolies and the US military defend a world economic system that is destroying the planet and creating war. Join our Peace and Climate Contingent in New York! Reserve a bus ticket through Better Future Project. There will also be a NYC Climate Convergence Friday evening, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 20 exploring all the issues including the connection of climate change and militarism.
