MAPA’s summer schedule is filling up! Here is a brief summary of dates you might want to add to your calendar:
On July 7th at 5:00 PM, we will be having a Skype call with Daban Shadala, representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq. He will be answering your questions about Iraq. The call will take place at Encuentro 5 in Boston, across from Park Street Station.
- On July 9th, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, Global Zero Boston will be having its first meeting. Pieces of the film Countdown to Zero will be shown, and people will also participate in a photographic project and discussion about the Iran deal. This event will also be at Encuentro 5.
On July 16th, from 6:30-8:30, our colleague and Harvard professor Elaine Scarry will be giving a talk entitled “Nuclear Weapons: Are They Legal?” at the Framingham Public Library. Scarry argues that nuclear weapons violate our constitutional rights and will provide the audience with action steps to help move the abolition movement further.
Join us as we table at the Lowell Folk Festival on Saturday, July 25th. We’ll be handing out literature and petitions, and spreading the word about MAPA and its goals. We hope to see you there – be sure to contact us to arrange carpools!
Confused about the US war on ISIS? You’re not alone!
MAPA’s Mideast Working Group is organizing book groups on Phyllis Bennis‘ new book Understanding ISIS and the New Global War on Terror, which was published July 1, 2015. The book is available at the MAPA office for $15. We encourage peace, student, community, and faith groups to organize their own study groups on the book. We’ll help you get started and we’ll put our heads together with other people organizing study groups around Massachusetts.

Hiroshima/Nagasaki Week 2015: Events Announced To Date

May 28 to August 5, 7pm to 7:16 pm, 70 Days for Peace vigil at University Lutheran, 66 Winthrop St, Cambridge. An indoor commemoration will follow the final vigil on August 5 at 7:30 pm.
August 4-9: Abolish War: Let Us Walk Together. Hearing the Cry of Survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Peace Walk in Leverett, Concord, Lexington, Arlington, Boston, Amherst, and Northampton.August 6, 3pm: Boston Remembers Hiroshima. Gather at First Church of Boston, 66 Marlborough St; solemn procession to Copley Square. Dance, music, speakers, information.
