On Monday evening, Cambridge City Council passed a resolution in support of the People’s Budget. The budget, drafted by the Congressional Progressive Caucus, is an alternative to President Trump’s proposed budget. In place of Pres. Trump’s cuts to social programs/public services such as education and healthcare, the People’s Budget advocates for middle class communities by focusing on all relevant issues from criminal justice and immigration reform to investing in clean & renewable energy/manufacturing. The resolution, already supported by MA Congresspeople Mike Capuano and Katherine Clark, calls on the House of Representatives to adopt it. While unlikely under a Republican-controlled Congress, it is a crucial and added pressure to promote the well-being of the American people and their futures over the vested interests of those in power.
