We’d like to introduce our members to Mass. Peace Action’s new full-time organizer, Brian Garvey, who began work in late March of this year. Brian first started volunteering with MAPA in March of 2018 when he joined us at MIT to protest the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He has been an active member ever since.
Brian has organized with MAPA: NextGen, a group of millennials who are working in coalition with other local activists to bring their generations perspectives into the peace movement. NextGen is currently focusing on the war in Yemen as a lens through which to view U.S. foreign policy. To localize these issues they have also focused on Raytheon, the largest arms manufacturer in Massachusetts.
Brian has organized talks and protests on numerous campuses in the Boston area, including panels with journalist Stephen Kinzer, Yemeni-American professor and activist Shireen Al-Adeimi, and Major Danny Sjursen. He is a co-chair of the Middle East Working Group, which is focused on anti-intervention. He will also support our student organizers, linking them to MAPA, recruiting new activists, and helping to form new campus chapters. He will also work on fundraising.
Brian has a background in community service, having worked for many years with seniors in the Greater Boston area. He grew up in North Reading, Massachusetts and now lives in Brighton.
